Donations for the museum in Lichen

Donations play a key role in building museum collections - it is thanks to them that it is possible to preserve for future generations the history of people whose fates often do not make it onto the pages of textbooks. In many museums, it is donations that make up a significant part of the collections.

The motivations of donors vary - it could be a desire to save a valuable item, to provide it with proper storage conditions, or to put it in the hands of specialists who will take care of its preservation.

When donating an object to a museum, the owner can be sure that it will be properly described, preserved and processed. It goes to the museum catalog, and if the state of preservation requires it - also to the conservation studio. Not every exhibit is immediately put on display - many of them remain in museum storage for years.

However, it is worth knowing that a museum warehouse is not a "dead place." This is where the objects presented in temporary exhibitions, loaned to other institutions, used in educational activities and publications come from. The collections are also used by students and researchers preparing scientific papers.

All over the world, most museum objects are just stored in warehouses - and this is a perfectly natural part of any museum's operations.

If you would like to make a donation to our museum, please contact: muzeum@lichen.pl
(Please include a file with a photo of the item).

When making a donation offer, we also ask for information on both the donor (name, address, phone) and the object (origin, history, etc.).

Donations are accepted on the basis of a donation agreement, which usually takes about 15 minutes to prepare. They can be sent by mail, or brought in person to the museum.

Donors are mailed a thank-you note and information about their entry in the Inventory Book.
