The People of 1863 say
Exhibition open to the public in 2013.
The exhibition was organized on the 150th anniversary of the January Uprising. The title was borrowed from the book by Fr. Jozef Jarzębowski, MIC - "The people of the year 1863 are speaking".
Visitors are offered two parallel and complementary paths to explore the exhibition.
The first, is the path of private experiences of those who participated in the uprising. Thirteen heroes were selected here. Thanks to photographs from the museum's collection, the viewer was able to get to know the faces of the heroes, and then, thanks to manuscripts, diaries, testimonies and letters, learn about their fates and experiences during the January Uprising. Some of the manuscripts were read and recorded thanks to the help of people living and working in Licheń. If guests became interested in any of the insurgents they could listen to letters, diaries, memoirs from the 19th century read by contemporaries.
The second proposed path of viewing the exhibition is a journey arranged from official Polish and Russian documents, from newspapers of the time, court judgments, official invitations, leaflets calling for participation in manifestations, the response of the National Government, etc. The documents presented were consciously selected from among many others. They showed the official information available at the time about this national uprising.
