The exhibition was prepared on the occasion of the Jubilee Year, whose theme is \"Pilgrims of Hope.\"
\nOpened in April 2025, it will be available until the end of 2025.
\nThe exhibition takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through the most important pilgrimage sites visited by Christians - from the Holy Land, Lourdes, Fatima, Rome, Guadalupe, Czestochowa and Santiago de Compostela.<\/p>\n

Among the unique exhibits are beautiful prints by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, unusual souvenirs from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land belonging to General Joseph Haller, an interesting image of Our Lady of Guadalupe brought by Father Joseph Jarz\u0119bowski, MIC, from Mexico, and photographs of Marian priests who covered more than 800 kilometers on foot along the Camino de Santiago trail.
\nPilgrim in Latin means a foreigner, one who walks per agros - \"through the field.\"<\/p>\n

The phenomenon of pilgrimage is found in many religions. Christians took their pattern from the Old Testament. They made pilgrimages to a holy place for the purpose of repentance, to give thanks to God, to fulfill a vow, or with the hope of obtaining a favor. Initially, they traveled to places associated with the life of Jesus. The cult of saints, brought the cult of relics. The faithful traveled to the eternal resting places of those elevated to the altars and to Marian shrines. The most common were the so-called peregrinationes maiores, or religious journeys to Rome, Santiago de Compostela and Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

The apogee of pilgrimages, was the 11th and 13th centuries. That's when pilgrims were given special protection. The First Lateran Council (1123) certified that the Church takes into its custody \"people wandering to Rome and visiting other holy places\" and for wrongs done to them one could be \"deprived of Christian communion.\"
\nPilgrims were required to be modest and dressed appropriately, which included a pannier, a shell, a hat and a pilgrim stick.
\nThe anklet not only helped on the road, but was also used for defense. Pilgrims almost always walked in a group. Along the way they had to face many difficulties, sometimes defying robbers or wild animals. On the way they often fasted, slept little, and filled their time with prayer. Since ancient times, pilgrims have brought with them \"souvenirs\" of the shrine they visited.
\nThe oldest documented pilgrimage to Czestochowa set out in 1626 from Gliwice.<\/p>\n
